Staff
Our staff comes from a variety of backgrounds representing vast experience,
prestigious education and innovative thinking. Our team is led by two
directors with nearly 50 years of combined experience. We have three
professional engineers, a retired U.S. Army colonel and the 2001 SBA
National Small Business Person of the Year. Two employees hold a Ph.D.
and four are currently pursuing one. Our lean team has trained hundreds
of companies from across the United States and from four continents.
Our quality team has helped 50 companies achieve ISO 9000 registration.
We have the resources to help our clients achieve success and continuously improve businesses in Alabama.

D. Robert Paine
Bob
Paine is a senior research scientist specializing in international
quality management systems, ISO 9000, TS16949 and AS 9000. He has over
30 years of experience in the area of quality assurance systems,
implementation, maintenance and discipline of recognized industry
standards in both the commercial and government sectors. He is the
founding member of the IAC audit consortium and has assisted over 50
companies to successfully achieve ISO 9000 registration. He is a
graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in business
administration. Bob has completed the RAB Certified ISO 9000:2000 Lead
Auditor Training. He is active in training, auditing, implementation,
transitioning and registration. Bob is the 2002 ATN Practitioner of the
Year and a member of ASQ.

Maruf Rahman, Ph.D.
Maruf Rahman has over 21 years of experience
in engineering and logistics management. His work experience includes
such roles as president, professor, engineer and research scientist at
Rapid Manufacturing Improvements, UAH, Alabama A&M University,
University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, Asian Institute of Technology
and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation. He has facilitated over
350 lean implementation projects to more than 4,000 employees. Maruf
has a Ph.D. from UAH in Industrial Engineering. He has an M.S. from the
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in Engineering Management, an M.E.
in Industrial Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology and a
B.S.E. from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in
Chemical Engineering. Maruf is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Maruf has co-authored a book and has had over 400 of his reports and
articles published.

Jeff Siniard
Jeff Siniard is a Lean Manufacturing Specialist with over 25 years experience in manufacturing. He has conducted over 130 kaizen events for manufacturers of appliances, flexible packaging, folding cartons, injection molding, metal stampings, wood products, consumer products, wire and cable, and spiral wound paper tubing. He has trained hundreds of executives, managers, engineers and floor associates in lean manufacturing principles throughout the United States, Canada and Western Europe. Jeff specializes in Changeover Reduction, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Productivity Improvement. He has five years of experience as a plant manager, eight years of experience as a plant superintendent and four years of experience as a maintenance superintendent. He received his lean training and facilitators certification from Dr. Maruf Rahman. Jeff has a B.B.A. in Management of Technology from Athens State University.

Kenneth Sullivan, P.E.
Kenneth Sullivan performs training and implementation in lean principles, as well as business development for the lean team. Kenneth has over 19 years of experience in both commercial and government sectors. His work experience includes roles as Industrial Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Supervisor, Consultant and Research Scientist. He has worked for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Allied Aerospace and United Technologies Corporation. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He is a member of the American Society of Engineering Managers, a registered professional engineer, a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and a certified NIST Lean Manufacturing Trainer. He has received two MSFC Director's Commendations, 1988 San Fernando Valley Engineering Merit Award and a Project Manager on the team that received the 1998 Grover E. Bell award.

Nicholas Loyd
Nic Loyd has trained thousands of manufacturers
from several states and countries in lean manufacturing. He has been
active in providing lean manufacturing assistance to companies in the
automotive, aerospace, biomedical, electronics, plastics, machining,
meat-cutting, mining wood-working and other industries in the areas of:
cellular manufacturing design, value stream mapping, takt time/work
balancing, work standardization, workplace organization/5 S, changeover
reduction and kaizen facilitation. He has a B.S. in Industrial and
Systems Engineering and is a certified NIST Lean Manufacturing Trainer.
Nic is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt. He is a member of the
Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing
Engineers.

Anthony Holden
Anthony Holden provides engineering support to lean implementation activities. Before coming to UAH, he had 5 years experience in the engineering field working with such companies as Teledyne Brown, Copeland Corporation, University of California at Irvine and ACD Tridon. While at UAH, Anthony has helped implement lean with Triana Industries, Sonoco, Bowater, Pemco and McDuffie Island Coal Terminal. He is a NIST Lean Manufacturing trainer and capable kaizen facilitator. Anthony received his B.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from UAH. He is a member of the American Society for Quality and serving as an evaluator for the Alabama Quality Award.

Heather R. Shar
Heather Shar has trained numerous companies in
lean enterprise. She has three years of experience in advanced
manufacturing planning, including process redesign and new product
production launch. She is certified by NIST in all courses offered
during the Lean Certificate Series. She has a B.S. degree in Industrial
and Systems Engineering from UAH and is currently working towards her
master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. She is a member
of both the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Society of
Manufacturing Engineers.

James W. Hutcheson
On
loan from the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority, Jim Hutcheson
is working on the Department of Transportation contract at UAH. At the
airport, Jim is accounts manager, performing sales and marketing for the
International Intermodal Center. Jim has over 25 years experience in
sales and business management, including 10 years of experience in the
transportation industry. He participates in several industry-related
organizations, including the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA),
the Alabama World Trade Association, North Alabama International Trade
Association (NAITA), the Birmingham Traffic and Transportation Club and
the Memphis World Trade Club. Jim has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering
from Southern Polytechnic State University.

Lauren C. Jennings
Lauren Jennings is a research analyst. She
is currently assessing the transportation needs of Alabama companies in
an effort to create a logistics model as part of the DoT contract.
Lauren has a bachelor of science in Marketing from Auburn University.
She is pursuing a certificate in logistics from the Logistics Institute
at Georgia Tech.

Sharla A. Mondesir
As a research analyst, Sharla is currently assisting the Office of Infrastructure, Logistics & Transportation in its development of an Alabama Logistics Model and Industry Cluster Analysis. Sharla is experienced in database development and management, and is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a B.S.B.A. in Management Information Systems.

Greg H. Parlier, P.E.
Greg Parlier’s
current research focus is on supply chain integration and optimization,
operations research and strategic issues relating to workforce and
organizations undergoing “transformation.” Greg comes to UAH from the
U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command where he served as director for
transformation and principal assistant deputy to the commander for
systems support. Greg is a recently retired U.S. Army Colonel. In his
30 years of service, he led and commanded air defense artillery units in
the Far East, Europe and Southwest Asia, including eight years with the
82nd Airborne Division. Greg has a B.S. in Applied Science
and Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Greg’s qualifications include an M.S. in Operations Research/Systems
Analysis Engineering from Naval Postgraduate School, an M.A. in National
Security Studies from Georgetown University and an MIT Fellowship. He
is a registered Professional Engineer.

Jeffrey S. Thompson
Jeff
Thompson is a senior business advisor. He specializes in the analysis
of systems for finance, accounting, strategic planning, management and
information processes. Jeff has 23 years of experience including
corporate consulting and business assistance organizations. He has
served in the roles of chief operations officer, director of business
consulting, manager of small business and research programs, corporate
financial planning supervisor and project financial specialist. Jeff
holds an M.B.A. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and a B.S.
in accounting from the University of Alabama.

Karen Stanley
Karen Stanley specializes in management consulting, including strategic
planning, business planning and marketing strategy development. She has
served as vice president of finance and marketing at Stanley
Construction Company where she won the SBA National Small Business
Person of the Year in 2001, an award presented by President Bush. She
has worked for KANS Enterprises, American Express and Monsanto Chemical
Company. Karen has her M.B.A. from Harvard University, an M.S. in
Chemical Engineering from MIT and a B.E. from Vanderbilt University.

Administration

William R. Killingsworth, Ph.D. - Director
Bill Killingsworth is director of the Office for Economic Development at
UAH. He is also the director of the Northeast Alabama Regional Small
Business Development Center, the Executive Director of the Alabama
Aerospace Industry Association and a Senior Business Advisor with the
Alabama Technology Network. Bill has 25 years of experience in
management consulting. He began his career at Pugh-Roberts Associates,
Inc., a management consulting firm headed by Professor Ed Roberts of the
MIT Sloan School of Management. He then founded Killingsworth
Associates, a management consulting firm based in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. His firm conducted consulting assignments across the
United States, as well as in Europe and Africa, specializing in
strategic planning, feasibility studies, budgeting and capitalization
and the development of start-up businesses. In March of 2001, Bill
joined the staff of UAH, where he has directed projects aimed at
increasing innovation within Alabama, creating growth in industry
clusters, building emerging technology companies, implementing lean
manufacturing and designing supply chain integration and optimization.
Bill received a National Science Foundation fellowship to attend MIT
where he received the S.M. in automation and control theory and the
Ph.D. degree in an interdepartmental program of engineering and
management. He received the B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn
University with highest honor.

Gregory A. Harris, P.E. - Deputy
Greg Harris is deputy director of the Office for Economic Development and director of the UAH Alabama Technology Network. Greg specializes in value stream mapping, lean manufacturing, industrial
engineering and operations/plant management. Greg has more than 20 years
of experience in manufacturing as an industrial engineer, quality
engineer, operations manager and plant manager at Lindy Industries, SGS
Consulting Engineers, Abanda, United Technologies, Federal Reserve Bank,
Convex Computer Corporation and Texas Instruments. He is a certified
NIST Lean Manufacturing Trainer and Professional Business Advisor. Greg
has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University, an M.B.A.
from St. Edwards University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Industrial and
Systems Engineering at UAH. He is a registered Professional Engineer.

Cynthia S. Baker - Controller
Cynthia Baker is the
budget analyst and office coordinator. She manages the administrative
team and handles financial issues for the center’s clients. Cynthia has
a bachelor of science in Business Administration in Management
Information Systems from UAH and has worked in both the private sector
and with the University for 15 years doing accounting, bookkeeping and
payroll.

Teri Martin - Sr. Staff Assistant
Teri Martin is the office manager and senior staff assistant. She handles financial matters and contracts for the office. Teri worked as a contract specialist for the U.S. Army for over eight years and has been with the University for over six years working in telecommunications and accounting.

Jennifer East - Business Development
Jennifer East is the marketing coordinator, with experience in public relations, promotions, and marketing strategy. She comes to UAH from Huntsville's Broadway Theatre League where she worked in event coordination and served as the head of education and group sales. She graduated summa cum laude from The University of Alabama with a B.S. in Commerce & Business Administration and earned a Master of Science in the Management of Technology from UAH.
